We had a great time last weekend in the UP.  Seeing the kids drive their own dog sled teams is always a dream come true! Some of us also visited Tahquamenon Falls to see the winter version on Sunday.  If you couldn’t make it this year you are always welcome to come up to the Thrilla in the future!  Just check the website.  It’s always around the same weekend.   We love to see Mr. Braymer’s Class Alumni!

We will be taking the MSTEP standardized test the week we come back.  We know it’s a challenge, but they will do great! Keeping a positive attitude will help!  If they finish our MSTEP packet over break ( great for long road trips ) I will give them a special treat when they get back! ;-)

MIRM/Spring Break/MSTEP

The Thrilla in McMilla race is this weekend!  I can’t wait see some students experience the dogsledding.  Next week will be a short one and lots of kids are excited about Spring Break. 

Thank you to everyone who helped with Spring Fling last week, I heard it was a great turnout and lots of fun!

Spirit Day next Thursday is Hawaiian Theme Day.  Plus, the infamous Quincy 5th graders vs. Teachers basketball game!  Whether you stay home or travel, stay safe and enjoy Spring Break!

Iditarod/MIRM/MSTEP

We have enjoyed the Iditarod this week.  The kids moved their mushers to Nome along our race board.  Over the weekend the race will conclude for all but a few.  It’s been a fun season once again with Ikidarod and Iditarod.

Iditarod/Ikidarod/Spring Fling/MIRM

Spring Fling is coming up Mar. 15th and we need helpers!  Here is a message from the PTO. 

5th grade parents & students:  Spring Fling is March 15! Please click on the link to view the online sign up sheet to work a game station.  All 5th grade volunteers will receive 5 free raffle tickets! (please check that you are volunteering on your pre-registration form) .

We have been enjoying following the Iditarod this week.  The kids are moving their mushers along the race board in the hallway and reading, learning about the race!  The first teams usually come into Nome around 9 days from the start.  That should be next week sometime!

Valentine’s Day/Switching/Snow Days

Thank you to those that attended the charity hockey game.  The kids were a huge help with chuck-a-pucks and we really appreciated it!

Next week on Valentine’s Day, we will have a little party in the afternoon.   The student names are on the back of the newsletter and attached in the email.  We will pass out Valentines and make holders for them, plus eat treats and watch a short movie!  Should be fun, due to the snow days we decided the ski trip was going to be a little too hard to plan in time. 

We will be switching again next week.  Our class will be heading to learn more about social studies and I will teach a science unit to the other classes. 

The students should make sure to read during snow days.  Also, Lexia and Imagine Math are great things to work on at home when they get bored!  They should know their usernames and passwords.

Balloon Car Donations / Charity Hockey Game

This week we continued learning about explorers, force and motion and multiplication powers of ten.  I’m looking for some donations to help build some balloon cars here at school.  I need some old CD’s.  I know you might have some blank CD’s laying around.  They work really good for wheels.  I also need some balloons and straws.  I would like the students to begin building them next week, so I you could send them in on Monday that would be great! 

 We are still looking for some student volunteers to help with our annual charity hockey game at Griff’s Ice House West.  The kids usually help us with a Chuck a Puck event at the first intermission, and there are other tasks they can help with as well.  I will attach the flyer to the email and also the link to the Facebook Event page is here for you learn more about this years beneficiary and what the night looks like.  The game is played on Feb. 2nd 7-9pm @ Griff’s Ice House West.
