Harriet Tubman Readers’ Theater

This coming week we will be finishing our studies of the Underground Railroad and performing our Harriet Tubman reader’s theater.  The kids have worked hard and learned a lot about this period of American History.
We will also continue working on our Lake Sturgeon ibook / prototype hard cover book, and other informational writings.  The kids have been collaborating on a google drive doc that will be imported into the ibook.  Julie Kane and Lisa Shears have been here to help us make the ibook and hardcover book a reality.  We are currently looking for a local publisher to print the book.
We will continue working in Unit 6 Fractions this week.  As we transition into learning about adding and subtracting with unlike denominators look for the students to need more help with homework and clarify any mistakes you see them making at home.

Underground Railroad + Harriet Tubman Readers Theater

Students research Harriet Tubman for readers theater

We have been studying the Southeast Region this week, and began to work on our Harriet Tubman Reader’s Theater.  The kids are getting excited, and we are hoping to put on the show for another classroom.  I will make a youtube video and add it to my youtube channel.  If you haven’t subscribed to my youtube channel yet, that would be a good thing to do as you’ll get email updates of what’s going on in class and math tips of the day.  You can unsubscribe at any time.    Just search youtube for MrBraymer and it should come up.

We will also begin our unit on fractions this week, students typically struggle with fraction concepts so any help you can afford at home is much appreciated.

Ikidarod and Thrilla in McMilla Dog Sled RaceSoutheast Region : Underground Railroad

Friday was a super fun day for us, we planned, designed, and ran our Ikidarod!  I was very proud of the all the learning the kids have done and it was a great way to celebrate and physically connect to this amazing event.   I will be competing (for fun of course) in a dog sled race March 29th in the U.P. through Nature’s Kennel.  Anyone is welcome to sign up.  I would like to invite any families to join us, as Nature’s Kennel needs volunteers for the checkpoints.  You could do the race, the kids could do the Youth Race (it’s FREE), or just come and tour the kennel.  See the back of this for details and contact me if you are interested!  This coming week we will begin to study the Southeast Region and eventually narrow our focus on the Underground Railroad, it’s importance to the United States and Michigan.  We are moving along in our math Unit 5 Measurement.  Ask your student how to long onto ThinkCentral.com for an online version of our text book and extra math help / extensions.
